Secure Server (SSL Encryption)

The secure server option is needed for accepting sensitive data, such as credit card numbers, on your Website. The secure server causes the data to be encrypted for transmission over the Internet. This feature makes use of the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) found in most Web browsers.

A secure server requires a digitial certificate. The certificate proves a web site owner's authenticity and establishes a legal relationship between a legitimate company and their Web site.

Do you need to buy a digital certificate for your virtual host?

It's a good idea because it adds credibilty to your Website when visitors see that the domain in the Web address is the same for secure transaction pages as it is for regular Web pages.

Web pages are made secure by using the prefix "https://" instead of the normal "http://". If you use our digital certificate, then the URL to your secure Web page might look like this:

https://secure.mm.com/your_company/order.html

If you purchase your own digital certificate, then the URL would look like this:

https://www.your_company.com/order.html

Remember, this only affects the Web pages that need to transmit secure data. All other pages would be addressed under your domain.

Should you opt to purchase your own digital certificate, you'll need some information from us prior to submitting your application.
