HOW TO CONFIGURE EUDORA 5.1
|
When you open up Eudora, pull down the Tools menu and select
Options. Click on the Getting Started icon under Category.
-
For Real name:, enter your name as you'd like it to appear in
e-mail
messages.
- For Return address:, enter your e-mail address.
- For Mail Server (Incoming):, enter pop.mm.com
- For Login Name:, enter your 3 to 8 character username in lower
case, no @mm.com on the end.
- For SMTP Server (Outgoing):, enter smtp.mm.com
NOTE: If you're accessing your mailbox from another ISP, that's
perfectly fine, but that ISP's rules apply when sending mail.
If you enter
smtp.mm.com but can't send mail, that ISP may allow you to use
smtp.mm.com if you change the outgoing port from 25 to 587. Or, that ISP may allow
you to use smtp.mm.com but with smtp authentication enabled. Or, that
ISP may require that you use their smtp server setting.
- Leave the Allow Authentication box unchecked.
Click on the Checking Mail icon under Category.
- Mail Server will display.
- Login Name will display.
- Here is where you can tell Eudora to Save password by checking that
box.
Click on the Incoming Mail icon under Category.
- Server configuration is POP
- This is where you can choose to leave mail on the mail server, or
not,
and if you leave it on the mail server, for how long.
- You want to leave the Skip messages over 40 K in size box
unchecked. If you check it, messages over 40K in size will remain
in your mailbox, but you'll never see them.
- Authentication style is Passwords
Click on the Sending Mail icon under Category.
- The Return Address will display.
- Leave Domain to add to unqualified addresses: blank.
- SMTP Server will display.
- Make sure only Immediate Send and Send on Check are
checked.
- Secure Sockets when Sending is Never.
- Click OK to save these settings.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM . . .
|
Make sure the POP, SMTP, account name and password are correct. Do this
by going into Tools, then Options. Make any necessary
changes, then click OK/Save.
If Eudora is checking mail automatically and you don't want it
to, reduce or turn off that feature by going into Tools, then
Options, then Checking Mail. Next to Check for mail
every, make the number 0 to
turn off the feature, or make the number 30 or
higher. (Remember: this feature controls automatic checking of
your mail; you can still check mail manually as often as you need.)
If Eudora is leaving mail on the server and you don't want it
to, reduce or turn off that feature by going into Tools, then
Options, then Incoming Mail. Make the box next to Leave
mail on server UNchecked to turn this off
(to delete
mail from server). Check the
box next to Leave mail on server to leave mail on server. However,
if you leave mail on server forever, you mailbox gets larger and slower
over time, even when there are only one or two new messages in it. You
may
choose to leave mail on server for a certain number of days by checking
the
box next to Delete from server after X days, and setting the
number to something you think will work for you. If it doesn't, you can
always change it. If you want the mail deleted from the server when you
empty your Eudora trash, check the box next to Delete from server when
emptied from Trash.
If your Eudora is giving you the message, "SSL failed, Certificate Error"
or something similar, we recently updated our mail server.
This new version has more features, and Symantec can't scan encrypted
e-mails for viruses. To fix it, go to Tools, then
Options, then Checking Mail.
Under Secure Sockets when Receiving,
select Never from the pull down menu, then click Save.
If your settings
are correct, and you're still having a problem reading/sending e-mail,
close out of
all applications and reboot your computer. Connect again and try your
mail again.
If you still have a problem or get an error message, note the
problem/message, then call our office (651-681-8018).
If you're online and just have a question, you can E-mail help@mm.com
ONCE YOUR CONFIGURATION IS COMPLETE, DON'T FORGET TO BACK-UP YOUR
SYSTEM!
