HOW TO CONFIGURE MICROSOFT OUTLOOK
E-MAIL ACCOUNTS (XP)

TO CONFIGURE A NEW ACCOUNT

  1. Double-click on the Outlook icon. Pull down Tools, then E-mail Accounts.

  2. Make sure the dot is next to Add a new e-mail account if you're adding a new account. Click Next.

  3. Make sure the dot is next to POP3. Click Next.

  4. Enter Your Name: as you want it to appear in messages; it's up to you what's in this field. Examples: John D., J. Doe, John D., John).

  5. For E-mail Address: enter your E-mail address on our system. Examples: soandso@mm.com, soandso@myowndomain.com.

  6. For User Name: enter your 3-8 character username. It's always typed in lower case and there is no @mm.com or @anydomain.com on the end.

  7. For Password, it's up to you if the Remember password box is checked or not. If you check it, please make sure to type in your 3-8 character password. It's always typed in lower case.

  8. There should NOT be a dot next to Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA). Click Next.

  9. For Incoming mail [POP3 or IMAP] server, enter pop.mm.com

  10. For Outgoing mail [SMTP] server, enter smtp.mm.com
NOTE: If you're accessing your mailbox from another ISP, that's perfectly fine, but that ISP's rules apply when sending mail. If you enter smtp.mm.com but can't send mail, that ISP may allow you to use smtp.mm.com if you change the outgoing port from 25 to 587. Or, that ISP may allow you to use smtp.mm.com but with smtp authentication enabled. Or, that ISP may require that you use their smtp server setting.

  11. Click More Settings.

In the box, enter MM.COM E-MAIL or something similar. Enter an organization/company name if you want to. Enter a Reply-To e-mail address only if it is different from your e-mail address on our system.

  12. Click the Connection tab. Make sure the dot is next to Connect using my local area network (LAN).

  13. Click the Advanced tab. How you manage Leave a copy of messages on the server depends on your needs -- how much e-mail you get, how large that mail is, if you use more than one computer to access your mailbox, etc. Be aware that leaving mail on the server makes your mailbox larger and slower to open over time. You may wish to not leave mail on the server at all, or remove the mail from the server after a day or two, or remove from the server when deleted from 'Deleted Items.'

  14. Click OK.

  15. Click Next.

  16. Click Finish.
