HOW TO CONFIGURE MICROSOFT OUTLOOK
E-MAIL SERVICES (XP)

TO CONFIGURE A NEW ACCOUNT

  1. Double-click on the Outlook icon. Pull down Tools, then Services. Click the Services tab if it isn't already in the forefront. Click once on Internet Mail. Click the Add button if you're setting up a new e-mail account. Click the Properties to check your settings.

  2. For Full Name, enter your name as you want it to appear in messages; it's up to you what's in this field. Examples: John D., J. Doe, John D., John).

  3. Enter your E-mail address on our system. Examples: soandso@mm.com, soandso@myowndomain.com.

  4. Click on the

Mail Servers tab if there is one.

  5. For an Internet Mail Server, that's the same as the Incoming Mail Server or POP/POP3 Server, enter pop.mm.com

  6. The Account Name is your mailbox name. It's 3 to 8 characters, always typed in lower case, and there is no @mm.com or @anything.com on the end.

  7. For Password, enter your 6-8 character password typed in all lower case. If there's a remember password box, it's up to you if it's checked or not.

  8. Click on the Advanced Options button if there is one.

  9. For Outgoing mail [SMTP] server, enter smtp.mm.com
NOTE: If you're accessing your mailbox from another ISP, that's perfectly fine, but that ISP's rules apply when sending mail. If you enter smtp.mm.com but can't send mail, that ISP may allow you to use smtp.mm.com if you change the outgoing port from 25 to 587. Or, that ISP may allow you to use smtp.mm.com but with smtp authentication enabled. Or, that ISP may require that you use their smtp server setting.

  10. There should NOT be a dot next to Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA).

  11. Click Apply if it lets you. Click OK. If needed, click OK again.

If your settings are correct and you're still having a problem reading/sending e-mail, close out of all applications and reboot your computer. Connect again and try your mail again. If you still have a problem or get an error message, note the problem/message, then call our office (651-681-8018). If you're online and just have a question, you can E-mail help@mm.com

ONCE YOUR CONFIGURATION IS COMPLETE, DON'T FORGET TO BACK-UP YOUR SYSTEM!

PLEASE REMBER . . .

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE ON ALL YOUR COMPUTERS. MAKE SURE TO RUN IT AND UPDATE IT FREQUENTLY!! COMPUTER VIRUSES CAN BE ACQUIRED THROUGH OTHER MEANS THAN E-MAIL.

SOFTWARE TO COMBAT ADWARE AND SPYWARE IS ALSO A GOOD IDEA! MAKE SURE TO RUN IT AND UPDATE IT FREQUENTLY!!

To COMBAT ADWARE, GO HERE.

NOTE: Ad-Aware is the name of the software that corrects the problem. Adware is the bad guy; it's not what you want. Yes, the names are very close. A good way to remember is: You're aware you need Ad-Aware.

TO COMBAT SPYWARE, GO HERE.
