HOW TO CONFIGURE WINDOWS MAIL (VISTA)

TO CONFIGURE A NEW ACCOUNT

  1. Double-click on the Windows Mail icon. Pull down Tools, then Accounts. Click the Add button. Select E-Mail Account.

  2. Enter your display name (This is your name as you want it to appear in messages; it's up to you what's in this field. For example: John D.). Click Next.

  3. Enter your E-mail address on our system. Click Next.

  4. The Incoming E-Mail Server Type field should display POP3.

  5. In the field underneath Incoming mail [POP3 or IMAP] server, enter pop.mm.com

  6. In the field underneath Outgoing mail [SMTP] server, enter smtp.mm.com

Normally, you can leave the Outgoing server requires authentication box UNchecked.

NOTE: If you're accessing your mailbox from another ISP, that's perfectly fine, but that ISP's rules apply when sending mail. If you enter smtp.mm.com but can't send mail, that ISP may allow you to use smtp.mm.com if you change the outgoing port from 25 to 587. Or, that ISP may allow you to use smtp.mm.com but with smtp authentication enabled. Or, that ISP may require that you use their smtp server setting.

  7. Click Next.

  8. For E-mail name, enter your 3-8 character mailbox username.

  9. For Password, enter your 6-8 character password. It's up to you whether you check the Remember password box or not. Some folks like the convenience of not needing to type in their password everytime they read their e-mail. Other folks like the idea that their mailbox can't be accessed if someone else is using their computer (unless, of course, that person knows their password.)

  10. Click Next.

  11. Make sure the box next to Do not download my e-mail and folders at this time is checked.
  12. Click Next.

  13. Click Finish.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM . . .

Make sure the POP, SMTP, account name and password are correct. To check the settings:

Go to Internet Accounts. Click once on the account for us. Click Properties.

Make sure your name and e-mail address are correct under the General tab. Click the Servers tab to check the POP, SMTP, account name and password. Click on the Advanced tab to check if your mail program is leaving or deleting mail from the server. When done, you MUST click Apply, THEN click OK.

If your settings are correct, and you're still having a problem reading/sending e-mail, close out of all applications and reboot your computer. Connect again and try your mail again.

Occasionally, commercial e-mail software may "choke" on larger messages. If this happens, you must remove the message that is causing the problem from you mailbox. To do that, close out of your e-mail. Then, open up your mailbox with Webmail. Webmail will often allow you to read/download the message. NOTE: You must remove the message that's causing the problem before closing out of Webmail and accessing with your regular e-mail software. Otherwise, the problem will remain. If it's a message you want, download it onto your computer before deleting.

If you still have a problem or get an error message, note the problem/message, then call our office (651-681-8018). If you're online and just have a question, you can E-mail help@mm.com

ONCE YOUR CONFIGURATION IS COMPLETE, DON'T FORGET TO BACK-UP YOUR SYSTEM!
