HOW TO USE WEBMAIL (SQUIRRELMAIL)
|
If you want a really quick and easy way to read your e-mail
right from our home page using a Web browser -- or, if your usual
e-mail software has a problem downloading a message or an attachment --
here's what to do . . .
|
How to Log In |
Read Messages | Reply |
Delete | Compose New Message
Add your domain to your e-mail address |
Vacation Message |
Sent Folder | Trash Folder
Draft Folder | Create New
Folder | Signing Out
-
If your usual e-mail software is already open, close out
of it and wait about 30 seconds before opening up Webmail.
Also make sure your usual
e-mail software will not automatically check your mail while you
are using Webmail.
- Open up the Web browser -- Firefox, Netscape, Internet
Explorer, Opera, Mosaic, Safari, etc.
- Go to
http://www.mm.com,
and click on the Webmail link in the upper left.
- Name is actually your username; enter the 3-8
character user or mailbox name you normally enter to read e-mail (in lower
case; no @mm.com on the end).
- For Password, enter your 6-8
character password (in lower
case), then click on Login.
NOTE: If you see a screen that asks if
you want the computer to remember the password, it's up to you to
check this box or not. Please remember if you are using someone else's
computer or concerned about security, you'll want to ANSWER
NO or LEAVE THE BOX UNCHECKED -- WHATEVER
INDICATES THAT YOU DO NOT WANT THE PASSWORD
SAVED/REMEMBERED.
In a few moments, you'll see a list of your e-mail messages.

When you read your mail with Webmail, you're reading your mail
directly from your mailbox on our system.
- Webmail does not automatically download the message
onto the computer you're using. You have to tell it to download the
message.
- Webmail does not automatically delete the message from
your mailbox on our system. You have to tell it to delete the
message.
- VERY IMPORTANT: If you use an e-mail address with a domain
name other than @mm.com (e.g., me@mydomain.com),
or
if you have
an additional e-mail address (alias) that contains @mm.com, that
address
must be entered into Webmail in order for it to appear in e-mail
messages ... and for the Vacation Message to work properly. Instructions on how to do this are below.
Top of Page
IF YOU USE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS OTHER THAN @MM.COM
...
OR,
IF YOU USE AN ADDITIONAL E-MAIL ADDRESS (ALIAS)
@MM.COM ...
|
If you use a domain name other than mm.com (for example,
me@mydomain.com) or, if you use an e-mail alias
@mm.com
(for
example, myemailalias@mm.com) and would like it to appear in
your
Webmail messages, that information must be entered into
Webmail. Also, if you would like the vacation message to work for
that e-mail address, it must be entered into Webmail. To do
that:
-
click on Options, then Personal Information.
- Enter your e-mail address with the desired domain name in the
E-mail Address field.
- Also enter your name as you want it to appear in e-mail
messages in the Full Name field. You do NOT have to enter your
full name in this field
if you don't want to. You can enter your first name and last initial;
just your first name; first initial and last name, etc.
- Reply To:
can be left blank if it's the same as your e-mail address.
- Signature can be left blank if you choose.
- You can leave the
other
items as they are.
- After you've entered the desired information,
you must scroll to the bottom of the page and click
Submit.
- If you have more than one e-mail address and want Webmail (and the
Vacation Message) to work for
all of them, click on Options, then Personal Information if
you're not already there, then click on Edit Advanced Identities.
Enter the Full Name and E-mail Address for the main (Default) identity, if
it isn't already there and click Save/Update. Enter the Full Name
and E-mail Address for the the next identity (Alternate Identity 1) and
click Save/Update.
NOTE: If you use an e-mail address other than one @mm.com but don't
enter anything in the
E-mail
Address field in Personal Information, Webmail cannot
include it in your e-mail messages. Also, the vacation message will
not work for that address. Your e-mail address will appear as
yourusername@mm.com by default.

To read a message, click on the subject of that message (don't
click on
the word Subject).
To download a copy of that message onto the hard drive of the
computer you're using, click on Download this as a file,
which is centered at the bottom of the message. (Please note:
downloading a message does not automatically download the
attachment as well.)
To view or download an attachment:

either
the name of the attachment or the word download to the right of the
attachment name. You may either save the attachment on the
computer you're using, or view it.

received any new messages, click refresh folder list on the
left-hand side.
To return to the list of messages
after reading the message, either click once on the Back button at
the top of your Web browser (not the Backspace key on your
keyboard) or click the
word INBOX
on the left-hand side.

To reply to the message, click on Reply on the
right-hand side.
If you want your reply to go to other people as well,
don't forget to include the e-mail addresses in either the CC: or
BCC: fields.
You may either type your reply underneath the quoted message (each
line begins with a ">"), or use your cursor to move the quoted message
down and type your reply above it. Typing your reply above it means
the person who receives your reply won't have to re-read what they
wrote to you before they get to your response.

the Send button.
If you are adding an attachment to the reply, scroll
down to the
Attach
field and click the Browse button. Find the file, click the
Open button, then click the Add button. Once you've
added all the attachments you want to, click the
Send button.
NOTE: You'll want to keep a DRAFT of the reply,
especially if the reply is going to be long or time-consuming to
write. To keep a Draft, click the
Save Draft button from time to time.
To continue editing the message, click on the
Drafts folder if you're not already there, click on the subject of
that
particular message, then click Edit Message as New.

button in the upper right. If you don't delete the message, it will still

messages, click on Show All, wait a bit, click on

messages in the Trash and you see the word (Purge) next to
Trash, click on (Purge). If you don't see
(Purge) next to Trash, click on Trash and
make sure there's actually something in there. Or, you may need to
click on Check Mail in the upper left
of the screen. You will see the word (Purge) appear
next to
Trash on the left-hand side.

TO SET UP A VACATION MESSAGE
|
- Extremely Important: Please make sure to set up
the Vacation Message
correctly or it won't work:
- First things first: If you have an e-mail address under
a domain name other than mm.com (e.g., me@mydomain.com), that address
must be entered into Webmail in order for the vacation message to
work for that address, and it must be done BEFORE the
vacation
message is set up. If it's not set up before, you won't get any of that mail.
To do that, click here. (If it's not set up,
or is done after the vacation message is set up, the vacation message
won't work for that address.)
- Turn on
the Vacation Message as close to when you need it as
possible.
- Turn off the Vacation Message as soon as you no longer need it.
- Now Turn On the Vacation message. Do this as close as possible to when you need
it. To turn it on:
- Click on Options,
then on Vacation Message.
- Click the box Send auto-reply to
sender? This is what activates the vacation message. It means e-mails sent
to you will receive the vacation
message for a reply.
- Under Vacation Subject, enter the
subject you would like for the vacation e-mail message.
- Under Vacation Message, enter the actual message.
- Most people will correctly leave the following two boxes
UNchecked and proceed to Step 10.:
If in doubt, leave them UNchecked.
Forward incoming message to
another email address?
No local delivery -- Forward
and/or Auto-reply
only.
WARNING: If you check "No local
delivery -- Forward and/or Auto-reply only," any
mail sent to you while the vacation message will NOT be in your
mailbox when you turn it off. Why? Because by checking the box, you've
told Webmail you don't want the mail in your mailbox (that's what local
delivery means) If in doubt, leave it UNchecked.
- If you know that you need to set up
forwarding, you may do so by checking the appropriate box/es and
entering the forwarding
e-mail address. But if in doubt, leave it UNchecked.
Note: If you check a forwarding box but don't enter any e-mail
address/es in the Forwarding E-Mail Addresses (One Address Per
Line) field, this will NOT work; any messages received
will
be lost because they will be forwarded to nowhere. If in doubt, leave it UNchecked.
- Scroll down and click Change Message when done setting up the vacation
message. You have now turned on the Vacation Message!
- Turn off
the Vacation Message as soon as you no
longer need it. To turn it off:
- Click on
Options, then on Vacation Message
- Wipe out everything
that's entered or checked.
- Click Delete Message or Change Message.
- You have now turned off the Vacation Message.
