CONFIGURING WINDOWS ME

  1. Click the Start menu, then click Control Panel, then click Dial Up Networking.

  2. Click Make New Connection.

  3. Type a name for the computer you're dialing, enter Minnesota MicroNet. Under Select a device, if your modem isn't displayed by name, pull down the pull down menu and find it. Click Next.

  4. In the Area Code field, type in the area code of the local access number you want your modem to dial.

  5. In the Telephone number field, enter the phone number for that local dialup number. A list of local dial-up phone numbers is available by taking the Access Numbers link on our home page.

    Click Next. Click Finish.

  6. Using your right mouse key, click once on the Minnesota MicroNet icon, slide down to Properties and left click once. Click the Networking tab.

  7. Under Type of Dial Up Server, pull down the pull down menu and select PPP, Internet Windows 200/NT, Windows ME. Click Advanced Options. ONLY Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP should be checked. Click the TCP/IP Settings button.

  8. Put a dot next to Server assigned ip address and Server assigned name server addresses. Both boxes at the bottom should be checked. Click OK.

  9. Click the Security tab. In the User name field, enter your login username. This is your 3 to 8 character username with @mm.com appended to the end of it. For example: johndoe@mm.com In the Password field, enter your password. Please remember usernames and passwords are case sensitive, and please remember to add @mm.com onto the end of your username. Everything else should be blank. Click OK.

  10. Right click once on the Minnesota MicroNet icon, slide down to Create Shortcut and left click once. Click Yes.

  11. You can now dial in by double clicking on the Shortcut to Minnesota MicroNet on your desktop.
IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM ...

Make sure the username, password and phone number were entered correctly. If not, correct all mistakes.

If all settings are correct, do a proper shutdown of your computer (and turn off your modem if it's an external modem). After about 10 seconds, turn your computer and modem back on. This solves about 90% of problems. Try dialing in again. If you still have a problem or get an error message, note the problem/message, then call our office (651-681-8018). If you're online and just have a question, you can E-mail help@mm.com

PLEASE REMBER . . .

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE ON ALL YOUR COMPUTERS. MAKE SURE TO RUN IT AND UPDATE IT FREQUENTLY!! COMPUTER VIRUSES CAN BE ACQUIRED THROUGH OTHER MEANS THAN E-MAIL.

SOFTWARE TO COMBAT ADWARE AND SPYWARE IS ALSO A GOOD IDEA!

To COMBAT ADWARE, GO HERE.

NOTE: Ad-Aware is the name of the software that corrects the problem. Adware is the bad guy; it's not what you want. Yes, the names are very close. A good way to remember is: You're aware you need Ad-Aware.

TO COMBAT SPYWARE, GO HERE.
