  2. In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections. (If you don't see Network and Internet Connections, you may need to click Internet Properties, or you may need to click Network Connections.)

  3. Click Set up or change your Internet Connection. (If you don't see that, you'll need to click either Create a new connection or New Connection Wizard, then click Next and go to Step 5.)

  4. The Internet Properties window should display. Click Setup.

  5. The New Connection Wizard should display. Click Next.

  6. Click Connect to the Internet. Click Next.

  7. Click Set up my connection manually. Click Next.

  8. Click Connect using a dial-up modem. Click Next.

  9. It will ask for a name for the connection. Type Minnesota MicroNet. Click Next.

A list of local dial-up phone numbers is available by taking the Access Numbers link on our home page.

  11. Enter your username, your password, and your password again in the Confirm Password field. Please remember usernames and passwords are case sensitive, and please remember to add @mm.com onto the end of your username. For example: johndoe@mm.com Click Next.

  12. You'll probably want to leave all 3 boxes checked. Check the box Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop. Click Finish.

  13. This shortcut should appear on your desktop. Double click on the icon to dial in.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM ...

Make sure the username, password and phone number were entered correctly. If not, correct all mistakes.

To check the phone number, username and password:

  1. Pull up the Start menu.
  2. Select Control Panel.
  3. Select Network Configurations.
  4. Click the icon for your connection.
  5. For User name:, make sure it contains your 3 to 8 character username (with @mm.com appended to it) is entered in all lower case. Example: johndoe@mm.com
  6. For Password, make sure it contains your 6 to 8 character password, entered in all lower case. If there's any doubt whether your password is entered correctly, uncheck the box next to "Save this username and password...", wipe out the asterisks that represent your password, re-check the box, then type in your password again.
  7. For Dial, make sure the dial-up phone number is correct.
If all settings are correct, do a proper shutdown of your computer (and turn off your modem if it's an external modem). After about 10 seconds, turn your computer and modem back on. This solves about 90% of problems. Try dialing in again. If you still have a problem or get an error message, note the problem/message, then call our office (651-681-8018). If you're online and just have a question, you can E-mail help@mm.com

PLEASE REMBER . . .

SOFTWARE TO COMBAT ADWARE AND SPYWARE IS ALSO A GOOD IDEA!

To COMBAT ADWARE, GO HERE.

NOTE: Ad-Aware is the name of the software that corrects the problem. Adware is the bad guy; it's not what you want. Yes, the names are very close. A good way to remember is: You're aware you need Ad-Aware.

TO COMBAT SPYWARE, GO HERE.
